Holiday Decluttering
With the holidays approaching, and the potential onslaught of new material items in the house, there is often a frenzied tucking away of things and preparing guest rooms. Fine. Don’t sweat it or worry about the “big decluttering.” Instead, and more importantly, focus on “soul decluttering.” Take a moment to sit down in the room that your family or guests will be inhabiting. Notice how it feels to think of them entering the room, or sleeping in it. Are you nervous or excited? Are you thinking of a past interaction? How can you create a space inside yourself to welcome whatever might come? Consider if there is an object, maybe a small vase of flowers or a chocolate bar, or a childhood toy, that will say, “Welcome. I’m glad you’re here.” Or perhaps it is a piece of your heart that you leave in the room, in expectation.
